It’s official, Emily Blunt has entered talks to take over the role made famous by Julie Andrews in the upcoming sequel to “Mary Poppins” at Walt Disney Pictures.
“Into the Woods” director Rob Marshall is helming the new film based on the series of children’s books by P.L. Travers along with the famous 1964 film adaptation starring Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
The first film follows a magical nanny who comes to care for a British family, the Banks. The original was set in the year 1910, while the new one will shift the action to 1930 and borrow story elements from the other seven books in the series – primarily the second one “Mary Poppins Comes Back”.
John DeLuca and Marc Platt will produce.
