Elizabeth Banks Joins FX’s “Mrs. America”

Elizabeth Banks (“Brightburn”) has joined the cast of FX’s star-studded nine-episode limited series “Mrs. America”.

The series stars the likes of Cate Blanchett, Uzo Aduba, Rose Byrne, Melanie Lynskey, James Marsden, Margo Martindale, Sarah Paulson, John Slattery, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Tracey Ullman among others.

“Mrs. America” will look at the unexpected backlash to the equal rights movement led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly (Blanchett). Through the eyes of the women of that era, the series will explore how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the 1970s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted our political landscape.

Banks plays pro-choice, socially progressive Republican Jill Ruckelshaus. She was appointed by President Gerald Ford to advance women’s rights and fought to keep the Republican Party from being taken over by Schlafly and the Religious Right.

“Captain Marvel” helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will direct the first two episodes and executive produce with Dahvi Waller (“Mad Men”) serving as showrunner.
