Ansel Elgort (“Carrie”), Zoe Kravitz (“X-Men: First Class”) and Maggie Q (“Nikita”) have joined the cast of Neil Burger’s young adult dystopian tale “Divergent” at Summit Entertainment.
Veronica Roth penned the young adult novel on which the film is based, and is the first of an expected trilogy. The story is set in a society divided into five factions that each represent a particular virtue: honesty, selflessness, bravery, peacefulness and intelligence.
Once a year, sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. It’s then a teenage boy and girl set out to rebel against the system and discover a growing conflict that threatens to unravel this seemingly perfect society.
Shailene Woodley has already been cast as the teenage female lead. Elgort will play her twin brother Caleb. Q will play a tattoo artist who befriends the girl, while Kravitz plays another of her allies named Christina.
Doug Wick, Lucy Fisher and Pouya Shahbazian are producing. The film is currently targeting a March 21st 2014 release.
