Elf Gets A Stop-Motion Holiday Special

2003’s “Elf” starring Will Ferrell is getting a strange follow-up. “The Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons is set to take over the role for NBC’s “Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas,” stop-motion animated holiday special to air next month.

The hourlong special will include nine musical numbers and will be based on both the original movie and the hit Broadway show it inspired. It’s not a sequel so much as a remake, with Buddy discovering he is human and traveling to New York City to meet his long-lost father.

Papa Elf narrated the story of the film, whereas Santa will narrate the special. Also in the voice cast are the likes of Mark Hamill, Ed Asner, Fred Armisen, Jay Leno, Matt Lauer, Gilbert Gottfried, Kate Micucci, Rachael MacFarlane, Max Charles and Steve Higgins

“Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas” is slated to air on December 16th.
