Elba Won’t Replace Smith In “Suicide Squad”

Elba Wont Replace Smith In Suicide Squad

Last month came word that Idris Elba has joined the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films’ “The Suicide Squad,” taking over the role of Deadshot from Will Smith.

Subsequently as several other cast members from the 2016 film are coming back it looks as if the studio has changed their mind – at least about the actor’s role.

Variety reports that Elba will still appear in the film, but he won’t be taking on the marksman part as those involved have decided they don’t want the casting to be disrespectful toward Smith. Instead, Deadshot is being replaced by a different character in the same capacity – but it’s unclear which one at this time.

The move also leaves the door open for Smith to return as the character later as he couldn’t participate this time due to scheduling conflicts. Gunn will write and direct the film which acts as something of a soft reboot for the franchise.

Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller are set to return, while Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is rumored and earlier today came talk Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flagg might also be back.

“The Suicide Squad” shoots this Fall for an August 6th 2021 release.
