Idris Elba (“The Wire,” “Thor”) is now confirmed to be starring in Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi monster epic “Pacific Rim” reports Deadline.
It was thought both Elba and Will Smith were up for the lead role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” earlier this month, but the rumor on Elba switched to ‘Pacific’ a few days later. Now he’s officially closed the deal to play the lead role of Sensi which was originally developed for Tom Cruise.
Charlie Hunnam and Charlie Day also star. Elba can currently be seen on the second season of “Luther”, which is now airing on the BBC, and has been shooting Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus”.
Meanwhile the key role in ‘Django’ looks like it might already have gone to another rumoured contender – Jamie Foxx.
Jeff Goldsmith, who revealed Leonardo DiCaprio’s involvement in ‘Django’ first, has tweeted that “Will Smith is out! Inside sources tell me that Tarantino has chosen Oscar winner Jamie Foxx to play Django!”
