Elba Replaces Foxx In Korine’s “The Trap”

Focus Features is in the midst of final talks for the U.S. rights to Harmony Korine’s upcoming revenge drama “The Trap”.

Idris Elba plays Rico, a gangster rap artist at the top of his career. That’s when his former best friend Slim (Benicio Del Toro) is released from prison after fourteen years after taking the fall for a robbery they both committed years earlier.

Having learned that not only has Rick achieved fame and fortune, he’s also married Slim’s girlfriend and raised Slim’s son as his own, the freshly released con is determined to exact revenge.

Slim recruits the help of a cocaine-happy manager (Franco) and a crew of Uzi-wielding surfers led by Max (Pattinson) in his task. Al Pacino is also onboard as Slim’s parole officer.

Elba will replace Jamie Foxx who was previously attached to the project. It’s a familiar topic for Elba who, along with being a highly regarded actor, is also known for his music work as DJ Big Driis.

John Lesher, Charles-Marie Anthonioz and Marc Schmidheiny will produce.
