If there’s one trouble with all the ‘offer’ stories plaguing the online news field right now, it’s that there’s no sign of this trend ebbing. However, in the past day several of the biggest rumours of late have been shot down, such as “Glee” star Jane Lynch yesterday denying she’s appearing in “The Muppets” movie.
One of the most out there rumours came two weeks ago via ‘industry tracking boards’ hinting that “High School Musical” star turned young leading man Zac Efron had been offered the lead role in Albert Hughes’ upcoming live-action Hollywood remake of “Akira”.
Turns out that scoop was a predictable wash, representatives for the Hughes Brothers tell Digital Spy the Efron rumors are simply “not true”. No comment was made about the even wilder Morgan Freeman casting rumors but you have to believe those have been rendered useless as well.
In other casting rumours gone awry, “The Hurt Locker” star Jeremy Renner was rumoured last week to be in “close talks” to play Snake Plissken in the proposed remake of the John Carpenter classic “Escape from New York”.
The Wrap however posted an article today saying “we can report with 100 percent confidence that no such offer has been extended… there is no deal and there is no involvement.”
