Whether they think it’s a blessing or a curse is hard to say, but the producers of the upcoming “Baywatch” film reboot have likely been chuckling over the Ryan Lochte scandal during the course of this past summer’s Olympic Games.
Why? Well according to The Wrap it seems that Zac Efron’s character of Matt Brody in the film, which wrapped filming long before the games began, is essentially Lochte.
In the film Brody is a U.S. Olympic swimmer, two-time gold medalist and world record holder who becomes embroiled in controversy after committing a crime. To rehab his public image and satisfy the community service portion of his sentence, he’s sentenced to the famous beach from the show where he proceeds to annoy chief lifeguard Mitch Buchanan (Dwayne Johnson).
Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra also star in the Seth Gordon-directed remake of the 1990s syndicated TV series. The film version is said to have a tone akin to “21 Jump Street” in the case of both flattering and sending up the source material with an action comedy tone.
