While James Wan may have bowed out of the project, the live-action reboot of the “Mortal Kombat” film franchise is still progressing and now a new report at That Hashtag Show indicates Joel Edgerton is reportedly up for the role of rugged Australian ex-special forces turned mercenary Kano.
Perth-born filmmaker Simon Mcquoid helms and Greg Russo pens the new take with Russo taking to Twitter this week to confirm he recently finished his newest draft and the film has a script, budget, location, director, and cast lists in place.
However, he also indicates Warners still has yet to give the project a green light and a meeting with the studio shortly will determine that. The hope appears to be to begin shooting in Australia later this year.
Russo has previously said to Discussing Film that tone wise it will be akin to a more adult Marvel movie rather than a super serious dark version like the web series which was the initial plan when Oren Uziel was attached as the writer.
