Aaron Eckhart is in negotiations star opposite Nicole Kidman in the drama “Rabbit Hole” for Olympus Pictures and Odd Lot Entertainment reports the trades.
The story, which David Lindsay-Abaire adapted from his own stage play, traces the life of a happily married couple that is disrupted by an unexpected tragedy when their 4-year-old son is killed in a traffic accident, and the emotional journey they must undertake to regain happiness.
Eckhart will play Kidman’s husband, who is trying to hold on to the memory of his dead son while dealing with his emotionally removed wife.
John Cameron Mitchell (“Hedwig and the Angry Itch,” “Shortbus”) has come aboard to direct. Kidman, Per Saari, Leslie Urdang, Gigi Pritzker and Dean Vanech are producing.
Filming kicks off in May and will be sold at next month’s Cannes film market.
