Update: A representative for CJ Entertainment has reached out and confirmed they are NOT in development on a remake of “Parasite” in “any way, shape or form”.
Original: Aiming to hit it big globally, CJ Entertainment is ramping up its international filmmaking efforts with plans for remakes of numerous South Korean box office hits for major overseas markets – especially the United States.
Along with the already announced two Kevin Hart projects “Extreme Job” and “Bye, Bye, Bye,” the company is also rumored to be considering an American remake of Bong Joon-ho’s critically acclaimed 2019 Palme d’Or winning “Parasite”.
“Snowpiercer,” “The Host” and “Okja” director Bong has scored some of the best notices of his career for “Parasite,” a wickedly funny black comedy about a family of poor con artists who use their smart tricks to finagle their way into the lives of a wealthy family. Class warfare, manipulation and murder soon follow.
NEON will release the film on October 11th in Los Angeles and New York, positioning the title as a prime awards season contender in the international film category and beyond.
