Sony used this week’s CES as an excuse to push hard its Blu-ray format and many of the other studios have followed suit.
Surprisingly HD-DVD competitor Toshiba didn’t fight back. There were no real major announcements from them and the only supporting studio – Universal – saying it planned no announcements during CES.
Anyway expected on high definition in 2007 are much of the Fall’s releases along with the following catalog titles:

Predator, American Psycho, Basic Instinct, Broken Arrow, Bull Durham, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Cabin Fever, Cars, Cast Away, Chain Reaction, Commando, Con Air, Crimson Tide, Dirty Dancing, Dodgeball, Dude, Where’s My Car?, Edward Scissorhands, Entrapment, A Few Good Men, Dances with Wolves, Finding Neverland, First Blood, A Fistful of Dollars, The Fly, From Hell, G.I. Also notable were some prime time TV show announcements. So far only Smallville: Season 5 and The Sopranos: Season 6 have been put out in hi-def formats. Now Fox has confirmed it’ll release the first seasons of “24” and “Prison Break” in the format early this year. Also cable series Weeds, The Dead Zone, and mini-series Dune will all get Blu-ray box sets.
