E3 2016: Sony PlayStation

There’s no question that Sony’s E3 Press Conference blew it out of the park, easily winning the day with the announcement of a ton of new major games including many big surprises.

They’ve also locked in an October 13th North American release date for PlayStation VR with three game titles being crafted for the experience – “Farpoint,” “Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission,” and “Batman: Arkham VR”.

There’s also the return of Crash Bandicoot as guest star in “Skylanders Imaginators” along with fully remastered versions of the first three original games planned for a 2017 release. Then there’s Hideo Kojima’s new game “Death Stranding,” a new “God of War,” a new “Spider-Man” game and multiple new IPs. Here’s the breakdown:

PS4 & PSVR Compilation Trailer

Insomniac Games (“Ratchet and Clank,” “Sunset Overdrive”) and Marvel are teaming for a “brand-new, authentic Spider-Man story exclusively for PlayStation 4” in which you take control of a more experienced Peter Parker.

Resident Evil 7
The long running survival horror franchise gets not just another sequel, but one fully compatible with PlayStation VR Mode. It has also locked in a January 24th 2017 release date.

God of War
The legendary action game comes to the current generation of PlayStation in which you return as a now-bearded Kratos in what looks like a refresh rather than a straight up reboot, though it’s not quite clear. Having pretty much slaughtered the Olympians, Kratos takes on the gods of Norse mythology this time out.

The Last Guardian
The long-anticipated game in the works for a decade now finally has a release date – October 25th. You play a young boy who must rely on his gigantic feathered friend to survive in a harrowing story of friendship and trust.

Batman: Arkham VR
Become immersed in Dark Knight’s Universe in an all new Arkham mystery from Rocksteady Studios. Utilise his legendary gadgets in Virtual Reality to unravel a plot that threatens the lives of Batman’s closest allies. The game will come exclusively to PlayStation VR in October.

Death Stranding
The first game from Kojima Productions features “The Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus, the new IP basically replaces the canceled “Silent Hills” game teased in the legendary “PT”.

Detroit Become Human
Quantic Dream’s new title, first teased last year, is back with a bunch of new footage. No word on a release date as yet.

Horizon Zero Dawn
The exhilarating new action role playing game exclusive from the award winning Guerrilla Games (“Killzone”) has you playing tribal natives in a distant future where giant mechanoid creatures threaten their survival.

Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission
One of the launch VR titles, go inside the “Star Wars: Battlefront” universe as you take the pilot seat in an X-Wing and embark on various missions against the empire.

An disturbing VR space adventure in which astronauts, on a mission to pick up scientists studying an anomaly near Jupiter, are pulled into an anomaly transports them to an unknown alien world.

Days Gone
An open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness two years after a devastating global pandemic. You play a bounty hunter fighting to survive while searching for a reason to live.

Set in a beautiful, fantastical world that exists in the mind of a woman revisiting the memories of her childhood. Dance moves allow you to traverse massive platform environments on your emotional journey.

Hawken: War is a Machine
You pilot a machine with massive weaponry which you will use to destroy your foes in fast-paced, multiplayer FPS gameplay. The game takes you inside a mechanized war machine on the battlefield of a dystopian world.

A party-based RPG in which you must lead a group of exiles to freedom through an ancient competition in purgatory.

Final Fantasy XV
A cinematic trailer for the highly-anticipated next major title in the long-running RPG series shows off some jaw-dropping graphics.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
A first look at in-depth “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” gameplay as Reyes and his crew infiltrate and take down an enemy SetDef destroyer.

Skylanders Imaginators
With Kaos on a quest to take over Skylands using his army of Doomlanders, the Skylanders must focus on stopping his evil plans with the help of legendary marsupial Crash Bandicoot who leaps through a wormhole to join the Skylanders in the ultimate battle.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Finn, Rey, and BB-8 are on the run from the First Order in this special trailer which shows off scenes from the Niima Outpost level.
