Dwayne Johnson will replace Clive Owen as the lead in the action-thriller “Protection” for Robert Lawrence Productions and IM Global reports The Wrap.
Johnson will play a disgraced former Special Forces soldier turned bodyguard of a judge’s 21-year-old daughter who witnesses her father’s murder at the hands of a member of a powerful Mexican cartel.
The pair go on the run across both sides of the border with the cartel’s enforcers, who want to kill the girl before she can testify, in close pursuit.
Both Owen and director Patrick Alessandrin have left the project, however a new director has yet to be announced. This isn’t the first time it’s happened either, the project was initially setup at Warners with Simon West directing and Paul Walker starring.
Brandon Noonan penned the script. Johnson, Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray will produce.
