Dwayne Johnson is set to fulfil a lifelong dream and star as Hawaiian king Kamehameha in the epic drama “King” for Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line.
Kamehameha was the legendary king who was the first to unite the warring Hawaiian islands, fulfilling the prophecy that surrounded his fabled life since birth. He took control of Hawaii’s destiny, and gave the islanders leverage in advancing the culture in trading with ships from Europe that began showing up.
Robert Zemeckis is set to direct the film from a script by “Braveheart” scribe Randall Wallace with the pair producing alongside Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. The tone of the film is said to be a visceral historical epic and filming will take place in 2020.
