Following yesterday’s news her new documentary “The 13th” will debut at the New York Film Festival, the trailer has been released for “Selma” filmmaker Ava DuVernay’s new drama series “Queen Sugar” which launches this Fall on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network.
Based on the book by Natalie Baszile, the Louisiana-set story centers around the estranged Bordelon siblings who are forced to come together after their father suffers a stroke. DuVernay has directed the first two episodes, while every subsequent episode was directed by a woman.
Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Kofi Siriboe star in the series which will debut on back-to-back nights on September 6th and 7th. After that the series will air weekly on Wednesdays at 10PM.
