Ava DuVernay is teaming with Participant Media, Harpo Films and Tribeca Productions for a five-episode narrative limited scripted series on Netflix about the Central Park Five.
The based on a true story tale follows the case of five teenagers who were wrongfully convicted of raping a woman in New York’s Central Park.
Spanning the early parts of the investigation in 1989 to the group’s exoneration in 2014, the series exposes the breakdown of our criminal justice system with each part focusing on one of the five teenagers from Harlem.
Created, written and directed by DuVernay, this marks her second teaming with the streaming giant following her work on the acclaimed prison documentary “13th” last year. The CP5 series will premiere on Netflix in 2019.
