Four decades later, “Apocalypse Now” co-stars Robert Duvall and Martin Sheen are set to reunite for the drama “12 Mighty Orphans” which stars Luke Wilson as legendary Texas football coach Rusty Russell.
At an orphanage perched atop a hill overlooking Fort Worth, Russell turned a scrawny band of twelve underdog castoff orphans with absolutely nothing into a team of fierce warriors that left their opponents bewildered and battered.
In spite of being outweighed by at least thirty pounds per man, the youngsters become one of the toughest football team in Texas and made it to the state playoffs. Vinessa Shaw and Wayne Knight co-star.
Sheen is playing Doc Hall, a country doctor who has served the orphans for over three decades without ever taking a paycheck. Duvall plays Mason Hawk, a wise freemason who instils wisdom in the Mighty Mites as to what being an orphan truly means.
Ty Roberts is directing from a script he co-wrote with Lane Garrison based on the acclaimed book by Jim Dent. Filming began earlier this month in Forth Worth.
