Dustin Clare Leads “Spartacus” Prequel

Aussie hunk Dustin Clare (“McLeod’s Daughters,” “Underbelly,” “Satisfaction”) has scored the major new role in “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena”, the upcoming prequel to the recent first season of “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” reports The Live Feed.

In the six episode prequel, Batiatus (John Hannah) is not yet the head of his family or of the gladiator training school.

Clare plays Gannicus, the lead gladiator in the Ludus. However the House of Batiatus hasn’t earned social respect or the right for its gladiators to fight in championship bouts as yet. Gannicus struggles to turn around the House’s luck.

Joining him will be Jaime Murray (“Dexter,” “Warehouse 13,” “Hustle”) as a Capua social climber and Marisa Ramirez (“General Hospital”) as a slave girl. As previously reported, Spartacus himself Andy Whitfield will make a brief appearance towards the end of the prequel series.

Production on the series kicks off next month for airing in January. The second season of ‘Blood and Sand’ begins production immediately afterwards for airing in late 2011.
