Dunst Feels von Trier’s “Melancholia”

Kirsten Dunst has scored the lead role in “Melancholia”, the next project from controversial director Lars on Trier (“Antichrist,” “Dogville”) reports Deadline New York.

Dunst takes over for Penelope Cruz who was originally in negotiations for the role before her commitment to “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” ruled her out of the running.

Dunst joins an impressive cast list which includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, Alexander Skarsgard, Stellan Skarsgard and Udo Kier.

Filming kicks off this July in Sweden for release sometime next year.
