“Dunkirk” Headed For Nearly $50M Opening

Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk” pulled in $5.5 million in Thursday night previews, with domestic opening weekend estimates now heading toward the $45-50 million mark – up significantly from a few weeks ago thanks in part to stellar reviews.

Also out this week is Luc Besson’s “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” and the R-rated comedy “Girls Trip” which both appear to have pulled in $1.7 million Thursday night previews. The former has received divisive and overall weak reviews, the latter has fared quite well, and both are now looking at openings somewhere between $17-25 million each.

“War for the Planet of the Apes” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” will likely be vying for third and fourth place with between $22-25 million each.
