Yesterday came word that Disney is moving fast on its upcoming live-action remake of its animated feature “Dumbo” and is lining up both Will Smith and Tom Hanks to star.
Now, Variety has written up a second report on the project, one that suggests that the Tim Burton-directed film could have an impact on a rival studio’s picture – the long-anticipated sequel “Bad Boys for Life”.
The trade indicates that if Will Smith takes the lead role in “Dumbo,” it could not only delay Joe Carnahan’s third “Bad Boys” film, but may even go so far as to see the sequel ‘shelved entirely’. Carnahan pulled out of directing the “Uncharted” movie so he could helm “Bad Boys for Life,” so if Smith does pull out of “Bad Boys” it could have repercussions on other projects.
Tom Hanks is being courted to play the villain in “Dumbo,” but there’s no word on a start of production date at this time.
