Sarah Drew (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Michelle Hurd (“Blindspot”) have been cast as the new Cagney and Lacey for the upcoming CBS reboot of the 1980s female police detective drama.
Drew, who recently announced she was leaving “Grey’s Anatomy” after nine seasons, will play the easygoing Detective Cagney, the protege of former athletics champ and the more experienced Detective Lacey (Hurd).
The reboot shifts the action to Los Angeles. Bridget Carpenter pens the new series which will be directed by Rosemary Rodriguez for MGM Television and CBS TV Studios.
Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless starred in the original which ran for seven seasons and won eight Emmy Awards.
