Musician and comedian Tim Minchin writes that he feels “impotent fury and sadness” over the sudden cancellation of his Dreamworks Animation film “Larrikins” which has been in development.
Minchin announced the cancellation on his website, revealing that animated musical was scrapped on the weekend. Minchin says: “a couple of days ago, the animated film to which I’ve dedicated the last four years of my life was shut down by the new studio execs.” Comcast acquired DreamWorks Animation in August last year.
The story followed an uptight bilby who lives a sheltered life in his family burrow. When he ventures outside he’s launched into a singing adventure across the Australian outback.
“Larrikins” was slated for release in February 2018 and was set to star the likes of Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Naomi Watts, Rose Byrne, and Ben Mendelsohn.
