Drayton Scores Lead In “Shannara” Series

Poppy Drayton (“Downton Abbey,” “When Calls The Heart”) has scored the lead role in MTV’s straight-to-series drama “Shannara” based on Terry Brooks’ massive fantasy book series.

Set millennia after our civilization was destroyed. The story centers on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world.

The first season is based on the novel “The Elfstones Of Shannara,” the second title in the series. Drayton will play Elven Princess Amberle who is the first female to be accepted as one of a special group of Elves responsible for the protection and care of the ancient Ellcrys tree.

“Smallville” creators Al Gough and Miles Millar are producing the series with Jonathan Liebesman slated to direct the first two episodes.
