Famed rapper and music producer Dr. Dre is working on a biopic of late singer Marvin Gaye with the project reportedly in early stages.
Gaye was behind such hits as “What’s Going On,” “Sexual Healing” and “Let’s Get It On” and became one of Motown’s most successful artists before he was fatally shot in 1984 at age 44 by his father in a family dispute. Dre, who produced “Straight Outta Compton,” has reportedly secured the rights to use Gaye’s music from Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
This marks the first attempt at a Gaye film that has been reportedly authorized by the late singer’s estate. F. Gary Gray, Cameron Crowe, James Gandolfini, Scott Rudin, Jamie Foxx, Jesse L. Martin and Lenny Kravitz have all made attempts to do one over the years, none of them worked out.
