Downton, “Forever” Live, “Selfie” Doesn’t

ITV has confirmed that British soapie “Downton Abbey” is getting a sixth season which will go into production next year ahead of a fourth quarter 2015 U.K. and first quarter 2016 U.S. release. The cast members for the new season haven’t yet been confirmed.

ABC has picked up nine additional episodes of the supernatural crime procedural “Forever,” giving the new series a full-season order. Ioan Gruffudd stars in the show about an immortal NYC medical examiner which has settled around the five million Live+Same Day viewer mark for recent episodes.

The news at ABC wasn’t so good for the comedy “Selfie” which has been effectively axed. ABC has opted not to order more episodes beyond the already produced first thirteen, but hasn’t indicated when they plan to pull the remaining shows they have in the can off the air. Two episodes this week pulled in a dismal 0.9 rating.

Finally, USA Network has given a two-season renewal to long-running medical drama “Royal Pains”. Seasons seven and eight will be shortened though, consisting of eight episodes each. The order also takes the show past the one hundred episode milestone.
