“True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto has previously indicated an intention to tackle a different drama project at HBO – and now it looks like he’s nabbed a leading man for it.
Variety reports that both Pizzolatto and “Iron Man” himself Robert Downey Jr. are in talks to team on a drama series project at the prestige cable network. Pizzolatto would pen, Downey would star and both would executive produce alongside Susan Downey.
So the big question – what is it? Insiders for the trade suggest it’s based on Downey Jr.’s plans for a “Perry Mason” reboot which he had been developing as a feature film at Warners for a few years.
Instead, it will now become a series that would be Downey Jr.’s first starring role on television aside from his brief “Ally McBeal” stint over a decade ago. Plans for a third season of “True Detective” remain in limbo.
