Doug Liman (“The Bourne Identity,” “Go”) is looking to potentially direct the sci-fi thriller “All You Need Is Kill” for Warner Bros. Pictures reports Deadline.
Based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s 2004 novel, the story follows a young recruit sent out to fight off an alien invasion and finding himself in a Groundhog Day-esque scenario of dying on the battlefield and being reborn each day.
Five months into this cycle though, he notices something different than the previous versions – a female soldier who may be the key to his escape. Dante Harper adapted the script.
Sam Raimi had a meeting about the project but has since opted to helm Disney’s “The Great and Powerful Oz”.
Liman’s interest is rising as suspicion builds that studio interest in his “Three Musketeers” project at Warners is cooling. The reason is due to the rival Paul W. S. Anderson-directed 3D ‘Musketeers’ film at Summit Entertainment which is much further along and will easily beat Liman’s version to theatres.
