HBO’s “Big Little Lies” wrapped up its run last night with an emotional finale that closed off pretty much all the threads of the lavish soap opera event series. In fact, like any good mini-series worth its salt it told a complete story and ended it there.
However this is the age in which shows never die, and there are fans and even some of the cast members involved in the acclaimed series keen for it to continue. Director Jean-Marc Vallee however has ruled out the possibility of a second season. He tells Vulture:
“This is the perfect ending. There is no way; there’s no reason to make a season two. That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it’s finishing in a way where it’s for the audience to imagine what can happen. If we do a season two, we’ll break that beautiful thing and spoil it. I mean, I’d love to work with Reese [Witherspoon] and Nicole [Kidman] and all these women again but not to make a season two. I loved it. It’s a great show, and I’m so happy and excited to have been the chosen one to do this.”
Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, who’ve both scored acclaim for their turns in the series, are also producers on the show and have previously expressed enthusiasm about returning.
