Vincent D’Onofrio (“Daredevil,” “The Magnificent Seven”) has scored a co-starring role opposite Forest Whitaker in the new Epix drama series “Godfather of Harlem”.
The project, which received a straight to series ten-episode order in April, tells the true story of crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker) who in the early 1960s returned after ten years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles.
With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy takes on the Genovese crime family to regain control. During the brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X.
D’Onofrio plays Vincent “Chin” Gigante, a former professional boxer turned enforcer and top boss of the Genovese crime family. He feigns a low IQ and even insanity to confound his rivals and avoid prosecution, but underneath has a razor-sharp criminal mind.
Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein serve as writers and executive producers on the ABC Signature Studios project. Brancato will serve as showrunner.
