Roger Donaldson (“The Recruit,” “The November Man”) has hopped onboard the remake of “All Quiet on the Western Front” for Radar Pictures.
The story explores the physical and emotional effects of trench warfare on a 19-year-old German soldier and his friends in uniform. The new take, penned by Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell, is said to include a gritty and realistic look about the “unforgiving nature of trench warfare”.
Erich Maria Remarque’s 1928 novel was previously adapted into the 1930 Lewis Milestone directed feature which won a Best Picture Oscar. Mimi Leder (“Deep Impact”) was attached to direct several years ago, but she is no longer involved.
Filming is slated to begin in March in Europe.
