“The Wire” star Dominic West is tipped to play ex-cop turned PI Jack Taylor in the first of a potential TV movie franchise based on Irish writer Ken Bruen’s novel series says Crime Spree Cinema.
Bruen’s 2001 novel “The Guards” will serve as the basis for the project. That story introduced Taylor, a man kicked out of Ireland’s shadowy police force Garda Siochana for various booze-related infractions. Now a private detective, he’s asked to investigate the death of a young suicide victim by the mother.
What he uncovers gets his best friend killed, destroys his nascent relationship with his client, and sets him up for a final betrayal
Filming apparently kicks off in Galway, Ireland this November on a pilot under the helm of Stuart Orme (TV’s “Inspector Morse,” “Merlin”). The Taylor character has appeared in seven novels thus far.
