The BBC has revealed that the upcoming seventh season finale of “Doctor Who” has finally scored a title – “The Name of the Doctor”. As previously indicated, Alex Kingston is set to return as River Song.
The mystery of The Doctor’s real name has been a question that has lingered for fifty years since the classic version of the show began back in 1963, and came into question in the seventh Doctor episode “Silver Nemesis” in 1988.
However, it was the introduction of River Song’s character in 2008 in the tenth Doctor episode “Silence in the Library,” penned by current showrunner Steven Moffat, that really set the ball rolling on this question.
In the episode, Song demonstrated that she knew The Doctor’s real name – and he revealed that “There’s only one reason I would ever tell anyone my name… there’s only one time I could.”
Will Moffat spoil such a secret? He has said we will learn “some startling truths about the Doctor. There’s going to be a revelation. I’m not teasing, you’re about to learn something about the Doctor you never learned before. And I think you’re in for a shock.”
Many expect The Doctor will be forced to say his real name, but in a voice only River will here. The season finale goes to air on May 18th.
