Following its airing during the World Cup, The BBC has released the first promo for the upcoming eleventh season of “Doctor Who”.
The clip is a specially made teaser with the focus on the three new companions along with the show’s new star, sadly there’s no new footage from the actual episodes. With the show set to have a major panel at Comic-Con this Thursday though, it’s quite possible the first real footage from actual new episodes will arrive online shortly after that takes place.
Marking the biggest changing of the guard on the show since 2010, the new season sees “Broadchurch” creator Chris Chibnall taking over as showrunner and actress Jodie Whittaker stepping into the role of The Doctor – the first woman to take on the role outside of spoofs.
In fact, it’s a top-down overhaul of the series with new companions, writers, composer, directors and crew members and a tweaked new format – switching out the usual twelve episodes at just over 40 minutes each with ten episodes of around 50 minutes each (and the premiere runs 65 minutes).
There’s also some expensive new camera equipment designed to make the series look more cinematic. You can judge the results for yourself in the clip below. The new season kicks off this Fall.
