As part of its Comic-Con issue, EW has posted a new video and article about the upcoming eleventh season of “Doctor Who” which sees acclaimed “Broadchurch” actress Jodie Whittaker taking over the role of The Doctor.
New showrunner Chris Chibnall explained why he believed the time was right for the series to finally cast a female lead in the role of The Doctor:
“I just felt the time was right. I think if the show hadn’t done it, we would have been behind the world, and Doctor Who has got to be out front leading the world, and being a great example of all the amazing things that are in the world. So, it wasn’t even a question in my mind.”
The article comes as it has been confirmed that the very first trailer for the new season is set to air during the World Cup final on Sunday night. Footage from the new season will also screen on Thursday at Comic-Con though it’s unclear if that clip will go online.
