As “The Country Bears” and the first incarnation of “The Haunted Mansion” demonstrated, not all Disney-owned theme park rides can be translated to the big screen with the success of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Rather than letting their lesser rides wither however, Disney plans to combine them in “Magic Kingdom”, a family adventure akin to the “Night at the Museum” films but set within the confines of the titular Florida theme park reports Variety.
“Battlestar Galactica” showrunner Ronald Moore previously penned a script for the project which was set in Disneyland at the time. The studio is now looking for a new scribe to develop the property which could showcase a number of high-profile Disney characters in an ensemble piece already drawing comparisons to Marvel’s “The Avengers”.
The project isn’t considered a top priority, but is being closely watched and handled by all parties concerned. Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce.
