Disney Won’t Do R-Rated Marvel Films

With Fox’s R-rated superhero film “Deadpool” proving a massive hit with audiences, talk has naturally turned to what other films in the genre could go R-rated and turn up the violence, sex and dark tone.

During Disney’s annual shareholder meeting this morning in Chicago, chairman Bob Iger made it clear that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will not be stepping into that territory in the near future, saying quite cleanly: “We don’t have any plans to make R-rated Marvel movies.”

All of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies have been rated PG-13 so far, and Disney is famous for being the studio behind family-friendly four-quadrant entertainment.
