Disney Shuts Down DisneyToon Studios

Following Pete Docter and Jennifer Lee succeeding John Lasseter as chief creative officers at Pixar & Disney, the studio is now set to close its third animation studio – Disneytoon Studios.

There will be layoffs of 75 animators and staff, and it is unclear if any will be transitioned to either Disney or Pixar. Disneytoon was best known for direct-to-video sequels, the ‘Disney Fairies’ label, and the “Planes” franchise.

Notable films included “The Lion King 1 1/2,” “Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas,” “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch,” “Mulan II” and “Bambi II”.
