Disney Sets Live Action “Peter Pan” Director

“Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” director David Lowery, who recently helmed the soon to open “Pete’s Dragon” remake at Disney Pictures, is tackling another remake of a children’s classic for the studio – Lowery is set to direct and team with Toby Halbrooks to co-write “Peter Pan”.

The film continues the studio’s current desire for live-action films that remake (with a twist) their animated classics. From “Alice in Wonderland” to “Maleficent” and “Cinderella” all have proven big money spinners so far for the studio. Next year comes the much anticipated “Beauty and the Beast”.

The choice though is an odd one. Recent adaptations of the classic J.M. Barrie work, from NBC’s live musical TV staging to Joe Wright’s “Pan,” have proven unpopular and critically dismissed. Right now there’s little desire to see another take on the boy that never grew up, but the Mouse House is determined to make audiences care again.
