Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the recent live-action “Aladdin” film, have boarded a new live-action take on iconic 1980s cartoon “Inspector Gadget” at Disney Pictures.
“Saturday Night Live” writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell are penning the script with Lin and Eirich producing via their Rideback production company banner.
The original series followed a bionic Inspector Clouseau type who could sort-of command an endless array of inventions built into his body. His archenemy was Dr. Claw, leader of the M.A.D. organisation, while Gadget was helped by his smart niece Penny and her crafty dog Brain.
The series was previously adapted to screen in 1999 with Matthew Broderick as the titular character and Rupert Everett as Claw. Day and Seidell are also working on the upcoming “Home Alone” reboot for the Disney+ streaming service.
