Ahead of the merger with Fox being completed, Walt Disney Studios is celebrating a record $7 billion global box-office haul for the year to date. That makes it only the second time in history any studio has surpassed the $7 billion mark with the first being Disney back in 2016.
Disney earned an estimated $4.07 billion overseas through December 9, the studio’s second-biggest year and the third biggest in industry history. Domestic box-office is an estimated $2.95 billion and is expected to close out closer to $3 billion once the impact of “Mary Poppins Returns” comes into play.
To date, four of the top eight global releases of the year are from The Walt Disney Studios including “Avengers Infinity War,” “Black Panther” and “Incredibles 2.”
