With the help of “Maleficent,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Walt Disney Studios has pushed past the $4 billion mark at the global box office for 2014.
This is only the second time Disney’s film division has hit that mark. The studio did the same last year but it happened on November 25th, well over a week later than the time they hit the mark this year.
Those aforementioned three films, plus this calendar year’s portion of the total gross of “Frozen,” all pulled in between $714-$770 million each at the global box-office. The announcement comes as Disney’s “Big Hero 6” passed the $100 million mark domestically.
Even with these new heights, the studio is coming second in market share behind 20th Century Fox which is also having an excellent year thanks to the success of films like “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Gone Girl.”
