Disney Develops Stelios Marathon Film

Bill Wheeler is penning the script “Kyriakides”, which follows famed Greek marathon runner Stylianos “Stelios” Kyriakides, for Disney Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.

Kyriakides was a champion long distance runner in Greece, competing in the 1936 Olympics, but his career was halted in its tracks due to the Nazi occupation of his home country.

After fighting for the resistance, the emaciated man competed in the 1946 Boston Marathon. He was initially denied entry as he was so weak doctors feared he would die, ultimately though he went from near last place to finish first.

“The Rookie” and “Secretariat” producers Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray will serve in the same capacity here alongside Paris Latsis and Terry Dougas.
