Disney Confirms “Black Panther” Characters

Though Disney did not show off any footage from Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther” film during their CinemaCon panel this week, the Mouse House has confirmed details of all the principal cast of characters in the Marvel Studios film, including filling in some gaps. Some now confirmed characters are:

Lupita Nyong’o as T’Challa bodyguard Nakia who eventually turns against him and joins forces with the villain Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). There’s also Danai Gurira as fearsome Dora Milaje member Okoye, and Forest Whitaker as T’Chaka’s old friend Zuri. Finally the big reveal is Letitia Wright as Shuri, half-sister of T’Challa and one who ultimately takes up the mantle of Black Panther in the comics.

They join a cast that also includes Angela Bassett as the Queen Mother Ramonda, Daniel Kaluuya as Wakandan security chief W’Kabi, Winston Duke as M’Baku who becomes the supervillain Man-Ape in the comics, and Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu who is only described as a mysterious figure from T’Challa’s past.

Several “Captain America: Civil War” actors reprise their roles here including John Kani as King T’Chaka, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, and Florence Kasumba as Ayo. Andy Serkis also reprises his Ulysses Klaue role from “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” while Phylicia Rashad has a role which has yet to be specified .

“Black Panther” opens in February next year.
