Walt Disney Animation Studios are on a roll with “Wreck-it-Ralph” in 2012, “Frozen” last year and “Big Hero 6” this year. They have yet to announce their 2015 plans, but they have just announced their 2016 feature project – “Moana”.
Revealed on the Oh My Disney official blog, the project comes from “Aladdin” and “The Little Mermaid” duo of Ron Clements and Jon Musker. Here’s the first piece of concept art:
Set in the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, the story follows a spirited teenager with keen navigation skills named Moana. She sets out on an impossible mission to fulfill her ancestors’ quest to find a fabled island, along the way teaming with the legendary demi-god Maui.
Together they undergo an action-packed voyage, encountering “enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore”. Musker says: “Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself. She’s the kind of character we all root for, and we can’t wait to introduce her to audiences.”
