Disney Adapts “Peter Pan” Prequel

Jesse Wigutow (“The Osterman Weekend,” “Cross Creek”) has been hired to adapt best-selling 2004 children’s novel “Peter and the Starcatchers” for Disney Pictures says Deadline.

The book and film are essentially a prequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic tale and serves an origin story for Peter Pan, exploring the backstory of the character and the time before he took Wendy off to Never Never Land. Dave Barry and Ridley Pierson penned the tome.

The recent Broadway adaptation of the property has just earned nine Tony Award nominations. The book is also the first in a series, thus a potential franchise launcher for the company.
