DirecTV and AT&T’s Uverse, who are behind the acclaimed MMA series “Kingdom,” have given a ten-episode straight-to-series drama order for an adaptation of the 2014 Stephen King best-seller “Mr. Mercedes” which hails from Sonar Entertainment.
Brendan Gleeson and Anton Yelchin have been tapped to star in the series which centers on a demented killer who taunts a retired police detective (Gleeson) with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private and potentially illegal crusade to bring the killer to justice before he can strike again.
Yelchin will portray Brady Hartsfield, the mentally deranged ice cream truck driver and IT worker who is the Mercedes Killer. “Boston Legal” creator David E. Kelley and “Under the Dome” producer Jack Bender are behind the show which will premiere in 2017.
