One day after it was announced that Ben Affleck would no longer be directing the upcoming solo “The Batman” film which he co-wrote and will star in, a rumored shortlist of replacements has already emerged.
Forbes published a lengthy report about how Affleck’s departure could influence the project, and list the names that are apparently high on the studio’s list of possible replacements. These include Matt Reeves (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”), Gavin O’Connor (“The Accountant”), Matt Ross (“Captain Fantastic”), and two very high profile names – Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival”) and the one and only George Miller (“Mad Max Fury Road”).
Timing is an issue here. Production is still targeting a shoot later this year, but several of those names are booked up – Reeves is still finishing up the third ‘Apes’ for this Summer, and Villeneuve is finishing “Blade Runner 2049” for the Fall, and O’Connor is moving fast on “The Green Hornet”.
Affleck is also remaining on board as producer on the project which will also star Jeremy Irons reprising the role of Alfred Pennyworth, and Joe Manganiello as the villain Deathstroke.
